RMI/SSL
Java RMI over SSL is not secure.
It is vulnerable to several kinds of Trojan Horse and man-in-the middle attack. Even though TLS and SSL themselves are secure, they are only as secure as the authentication of the peer, and RMI completely prevents authentication and authorization from taking place outside the socket factory.

The RMI/SSL product described here fixes all these problems. It consists of secure extensions of Sun's javax.rmi.ssl RMI/SSL socket factories, facilities to define handshake-completion and session-listener callbacks, and a SecureSSLRemoteObject implementation which simplifies the use of the socket factories and callbacks considerably.

Scalable SSL for Java
Scalable SSL for Java allows you to construct highly scalable secure servers in Java without requiring an execution thread per client, by implementing TLS/SSL in non-blocking mode. The product doesn't require developers to use the problematic SSLEngine which is all Sun have provided for this purpose, instead relying almost entirely on existing Java SocketChannel and SSLSocket APIs already familiar to server developers. It adds no reliance on specific Java platform or cryptology vendors, and uses no native code. When deployed in conjunction with a hardware crypto accelerator, it is now possible to implement secure servers some orders of magnitude more scalable than previously.

Technically the product consists of SSLServerSocketChannel, SSLSocketChannel, and SSLSelector classes, tied together via a SSLSelectorProvider implementation, built over the JDK 1.5 SSLEngine.

Client/server and client-only pricing: $ASK Scalable SSL for Java is a server-class product and it is priced accordingly with a licence fee per deployed server. A client-side-only version excluding the SSLServerSocketChannel class is also available.
The RMI Proxy
Secure RMI proxying through firewalls
RMI over the Internet is now a practical proposition.
  • eliminates HTTP tunnelling, CGI scripts, and servlets
  • implements full access control based on the Java 2 Security Model
  • provides firewall event logging now configurable
  • supports RMI servers behind firewalls
  • supports callbacks through firewalls
  • supports client- and server-side NAT
  • supports multiple client- and server-side firewall enclaves
  • supports JDK 1.2, 1.3.x, 1.4.x, and 1.5
  • supports Activation
  • uses a minimal client & server API
  • works through Raptor/Eagle firewalls
NEW RMI Proxy Plus! with support for Java Web Start and other non-codebase deployments

Feedback
RMI Master Registry
Our RMI Master Registry product overcomes the limitations of the RMI Registry shipped with Java. Via a simple plugin-in architecture it can support any or all of the following:
  • changing the hard-wired access-control rule requiring servers to execute in the same host as the Registry, in favour of a Permissions/.policy-based rule
  • installing pre- and post-call handlers to monitor Registry activities
  • modifying the objects returned so as to implement load-balancing stubs

Protocol adapters
We are presently engaged in constructing a family of protocol adapters which will enable transparent conversion to and from any of the following:
  • RMI/JRMP
  • RMI/IIOP
  • CORBA/IIOP
  • JMS
Other adapters to be announced.
